چکیده

We construct an infinite set of retractions from certain loop spaces of suspended low rank CW -complexes X localized at an odd prime p. These retracts are themselves loop spaces of arbitrary suspensions of X. This is accomplished with the help of modular representations and their applications to topology.

Homotopy Representations over the Orbit Category

Let G be a finite group. The unit sphere in a finitedimensional orthogonal G-representation motivates the definition of homotopy representations, due to tom Dieck. We introduce an algebraic analogue and establish its basic properties, including the Borel–Smith conditions and realization by finite G-CW-complexes.

The Mod 2 Cohomology Rings of Rank 3 Simple Groups are Cohen – Macaulay

In recent years we have been studying the cohomology rings of the sporadic simple groups and their relations with problems in algebra and homotopy theory. This work was motivated in part by results of D. Quillen [Q3] and J. Carlson [C], connecting H(G;K) (K a field of characteristic p) with the structure of modular representations of G, and also by the connection of finite group theory with sta...

Some bounds on unitary duals of classical groups‎ - ‎non-archimeden case

‎We first give bounds for domains where the unitarizabile subquotients can show up in the parabolically induced representations of classical $p$-adic groups‎. ‎Roughly‎, ‎they can show up only if the‎ ‎central character of the inducing irreducible cuspidal representation is dominated by the‎ ‎square root of the modular character of the minimal parabolic subgroup‎. ‎For unitarizable subquotients...

Group Actions on Spheres with Rank One Prime Power Isotropy

We show that a rank two finite group G admits a finite G-CW-complex X ' S with rank one prime power isotropy if and only if G does not p′-involve Qd(p) for any odd prime p. This follows from a more general theorem which allows us to construct a finite G-CW-complex by gluing together a given G-invariant family of representations defined on the Sylow subgroups of G.

Representation Theory, Topological Field Theory, and the Andrews-curtis Conjecture

We pose a representation-theoretic question motivated by an attempt to resolve the Andrews-Curtis conjecture. Roughly, is there a triangular Hopf algebra with a collection of self-dual irreducible representations Vi so that the product of any two decomposes as a sum of copies of the Vi, and ∑ (rank Vi) 2 = 0? This data can be used to construct a “topological quantum field theory” on 2complexes ...
